On June 20, 2024, the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Bangkok and the International Computer Hacking Intellectual Property (ICHIP) concluded The Cryptocurrency Case Working Group (CCWG) workshop. The workshop brought together 36 participants from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The program enhanced the capacity of prosecutors, investigators, and regulators in combating cryptocurrency-enabled crimes. Participants received training in blockchain analysis tools, strategies for obtaining customer data from virtual asset service providers, and asset forfeiture considerations. Emphasizing the identification, tracing, freezing, and seizing of virtual assets, the workshop highlighted the critical need for transnational cooperation among criminal justice officials.
Real-world case studies provided practical insights, while networking opportunities facilitated lead sharing and collaboration. The workshop also included train-the-trainer modules, ensuring participants could disseminate their newly acquired skills within their respective agencies.
By the end of the workshop, officials had a comprehensive understanding of the technologies and methodologies needed for effective cryptocurrency investigations. They left with improved awareness of trends and tools, and a strengthened ability to collaborate across borders to tackle cryptocurrency-enabled crimes. This initiative underscores ILEA and ICHIP's commitment to enhancing regional justice capabilities against emerging cyber threats.
