On October 4,
2024, ILEA Bangkok successfully concluded the second session of the Chemical
Diversion Investigations program. This comprehensive training program was a
joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the
International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Bangkok, combining the expertise
and experience of both organizations to address the critical issue of chemical
diversion in the region.
A total of 24 committed participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam took part in the course. The training focused on equipping law enforcement personnel with the skills needed to identify, investigate, and prevent the illegal diversion of chemicals often used in the production of illicit drugs. Through a mix of theoretical instruction and hands-on practical exercises, participants gained deeper insights into the latest investigative techniques, regulatory controls, and legal frameworks.
In addition to the technical knowledge shared, the program fostered regional cooperation and strengthened relationships among participants, enhancing their capacity to work collaboratively in addressing cross-border chemical diversion issues. The session also highlighted the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in the fight against drug-related crimes.
