On December 16, 2022, ILEA Bangkok together with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) held a one-week Chemical Diversion Investigations: Session 1 course at the Law Enforcement Tactical Training Center (LETTC) in Cha-am, Thailand. There were 32 law enforcement officers, including narcotics investigators, regulatory investigators, prosecutors who handle narcotics prosecutions, chemists, and forensic specialists from seven (7) member countries who participated in the training. The course introduced techniques used in the identification, investigation, and dismantling of precursor chemical suppliers and distributors in the production of illicit drugs. Additionally, the course included lectures in the manufacturing of drugs, chemical toxicology, diversion investigative and audit techniques, and international controlled deliveries. Also, the course allowed participants to lead and practice investigative tools and concluded with a mock trial scenario where they produce evidence, testified in court, and prosecuted a suspected chemical supplier.
