The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Bangkok, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has successfully concluded the Fisheries Enforcement and Prosecution Course: Session 2, a vital initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of regional government fisheries and marine legal advisors and enforcement personnel. The course, which ran from November 6-10, 2023, brought together 44 officials representing Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
The Fisheries Enforcement and Prosecution course was meticulously designed to provide participating officials with a comprehensive foundation and understanding of the legal tools and strategies available to them for effectively monitoring, enforcing, and successfully prosecuting fisheries violations. In this era of heightened concern for marine conservation, the training focused on two primary areas, which are Legal and Policy Issues and Enforcement and Investigative Techniques and Procedures. Additionally, officials were trained in import and landing inspections from fishing vessels, reefers, and container vessels, an essential component of ensuring compliance with fisheries regulations.
