This year, ILEA Bangkok kicked off the 2020 alumni and embassy outreach programs in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
ILEA Bangkok, led by Program Director Cunney, Deputy Program Director Rohlfs, and Deputy Chief of Academic Affairs Police Lieutenant Colonel Norasee travelled to Dili, Timor-Leste to meet with RSO Lech Kazmirski and Chargé d’ Affaires Elias Parra to discuss additional training opportunities, as well as expanding law enforcement networks for Timor-Leste. The trip was also to recruit Tetum interpreters, to better support and facilitate Timorese participants in ILEA training programs.
The visit included meetings with the Interim Interior Minister, PNTL Commander General Commissioner, Head of PNTL International Affairs, Commissioner of Anticorruption Commissioner and prosecutors, to discuss opportunities to train more Timorese law enforcement officers and strengthen the regional law enforcement cooperation.
The spotlight of the visit was the alumni event held at the Timor-Plaza Hotel. At the event, it was a great pleasure to have Chargé d’ Affaires Parra and PNTL Commander General Faustino da Costa as the event’s guests of honor. Program Director Cunney provided remarks regarding the importance of law enforcement networks and cooperation through future training programs, in accordance with ILEA’s motto, “A Bridge to Cooperation”. At the end of the event, ILEA Bangkok highlighted an alumni success story and encouraged attendees to submit their own success stories when they have applied their knowledge and skills gained through their training programs.
