From August 26-30, 2024, the International Law Enforcement Training Academy (ILEA) and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) co-hosted a landmark event: the first-ever Leadership for Women in Law Enforcement course that included participants from the Pacific Islands. In the Indo-Pacific region, women play a crucial role in combating transnational crime. This course brought together law enforcement professionals from both the Pacific Islands and traditional Asian countries, creating valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration across the Indo-Pacific region. The training was a huge success, highlighting the importance of diversity and the growing role of women in law enforcement.
By incorporating Pacific Island countries into this training, ILEA has expanded its reach and demonstrated its commitment to building stronger connections and cooperation among law enforcement communities in the region. Participants not only sharpened their leadership skills but also built relationships that will strengthen cross-border collaboration throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Director Efren Buenrostro Jr. provided closing remarks at graduation and stated that, “The success of this course underscores the increasing recognition of the critical role women play in law enforcement. By empowering more women in leadership positions, law enforcement agencies can become more inclusive and effective in addressing today’s global challenges, particularly transnational crime. This course not only helped women leaders grow professionally but also reinforced the importance of cooperation between countries in the Indo-Pacific region.“
