ILEA Alumni Event and Embassy Outreach Program in Malaysia

As part of the ILEA Alumni and Embassy Outreach program, Deputy Program Director Michael Rohlfs and ILEA Alumni Coordinator Kannika “Tukta” Mala recently traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. While there, they met with the U.S. Embassy’s Law Enforcement Working Group and the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) Training Division to explore additional areas of cooperation and programming with ILEA. The highlight of the trip was an alumni event held at an RMP training facility, followed by a lunch for the invitees at a local restaurant.

At the event, Deputy Program Director Rohlfs briefed attendees on recent ILEA renovations and new courses being planned for the 2020 training schedule. Alumni Coordinator Mala emphasized the importance of the alumni program for maintaining relationships that were established during ILEA training, as well as encouraging attendees to submit success stories they have had utilizing skills enhanced at ILEA Bangkok.

A RMP Superintendent of Police, who had previously provided an alumni success story, was invited to share with the group how his ILEA experience made positive contributions to his work.  The guest of honor at the event was Deputy Commissioner of Police Dato’ Nerita Yaacob, Deputy Director of Training, who had attended ILEA Bangkok’s Senior Executive Symposium and 20th Anniversary Celebration in May, and she thanked the U.S. Embassy and ILEA Bangkok for providing training opportunities to the RMP for the last 20 years.
