ILEA Bangkok and DEA: Emerging Trends in Illicit Synthetic Drug and Production Techniques

ILEA Bangkok together with United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) organized the virtual Emerging Trends in Illicit Synthetic Drug and Production Techniques: Session 1 on May 24-26, 2002. There were 49 participants from 8 subscribing counties.

The courses provided technical forensic information on the most current trends in synthetic drugs and emerging illicit drug production techniques being encountered around the world. This included drug production using clandestine drug laboratories utilizing new production methods and novel precursors. The class discussed the identification, production, analysis, and legal approaches to control newer drugs and their analogs such as fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids (“Spice”), Cathinones (“Bath Salts”), methamphetamine, Butane Honey Oil, and methaqualone.
