From January 15-26, 2024, ILEA Bangkok concluded the two-week Wildlife Trafficking Investigators Program (WTIP) : Session 13 training course at Law Enforcement Tactical Training Center (LETTC) in Cha-am, Thailand. The curriculum provided an overview of various wildlife trafficking investigative topics which are reinforced through field exercises. It also focused on endangered species law; CITES wildlife trade data, wildlife identification, case initiation and management, digital evidence, surveillance, covert operations, money laundering, interviewing, ethics and corruptions, raid planning, report writing and court preparation. Instructors from FWS offered 30 participants from Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam, techniques and methods available to combat specific wildlife investigative issues. This exchange of intelligence and cooperation on investigations is crucial in combating international wildlife trafficking.
