Wildlife Trafficking Investigators Program-Africa and Asia Exchange Program

The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Gaborone, Botswana successfully hosted a Wildlife Trafficking Investigations Course – Africa and Asia Exchange Program, November 4-15, 2019, that included 40 regional participants from six countries from the continent of Africa as well as 10 participants from the South East Asia region.

In support of this Africa and Asia exchange-in-training program, ILEA Bangkok’s Deputy Program Director, Tamiko Francis accompanied a delegation of 5 Thai and 5 Vietnamese law enforcement and other criminal justice practitioners to ILEA Gaborone for ten class days with expert instructors from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the Department of the Interior.  The course focused on endangered species law; wildlife trade data; wildlife identification; case initiation and management; digital evidence; forensics and crime scene processing; money laundering; interviewing; ethics and corruption; operational planning; report writing, court preparation and more. The program was so successful, ILEA Bangkok looks to host ILEA Gaborone and its regional partners from Africa in Bangkok in 2020.
