International Post Blast Investigation (IPBI): Session 34 (March 11-22, 2024)

Law enforcement officers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Timor-Leste recently concluded a rigorous two-week training program aimed at fortifying their skills in post-blast investigation techniques. Hosted by the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Bangkok and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the training took place in Cha-Am, Thailand, from March 11 to March 22, 2024.

Throughout the training, 39 participants were immersed in hands-on experiences, focusing on reconstructing various components of explosive devices using investigative methods like sifting. Under the guidance of experienced ATF instructors, officers navigated through realistic bombing scenarios. The culmination of the program saw them engaging in a final practical exercise, wherein they processed a crime scene resulting from a bomb detonation inside a vehicle. These exercises were meticulously tailored to analyze the specific roles and responsibilities of each team member, employing ATF's renowned 100 Step method of investigation.

Additionally, on March 19, 2024, ILEA Bangkok's Executive Director, Police Major General Punvipa Rohitopakara, accompanied by Program Director Mr. Efren Buenrostro, visited the bomb range in Cha-Am for an observation of an explosive demonstration, which provided further insight into post-blast investigation techniques.

In a poignant moment, this training marked the farewell of Mr. Jin Chah, Supervisory Special Agent of ATF, who has devoted many years to the program. ILEA Bangkok expressed heartfelt gratitude for his dedication and service, extending warm wishes for a fulfilling retirement.
